Projectile motion
A ball launched at an angle follows a curve when gravity is the only force after launch. Level: standard.
Learning goals
- See the curved path of a launched ball.
- Read horizontal speed and vertical speed as separate parts.
- Compute time of flight and range for a flat landing.
Simulation
Air resistance is left out. The landing height matches the launch height.
Formulas
- Horizontal. x = v cos(theta) t
- Vertical. y = v sin(theta) t - 0.5 g t^2
- Range. R = v^2 sin(2 theta) / g
Worked example: v = 20 m/s, theta = 40 deg, g = 9.81. Range 40.16 m. Time of flight 2.62 s.
